How I Discovered My Life Purpose?
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference –Robert Frost
Few years ago I read a book titled, “The Purpose Driven Life” authored by Rick Warren, during my sophomore year in the university. The book had an overarching effect on me.
Until then I never so much heard about the subject called, ‘Purpose’
However, the book, being the most widely sold non-fiction book in history, however, set me on a course to find why on earth I am here.
Therefore, I weighed my likes from dislikes in order to sieve what my real purpose is.
However, having soft spot for music of any genre and style so long it appeals to me informed my decision to join the choir of my local church. But this didn’t quench my real reason on earth.
No sooner than I joined the choir I soon discovered that I was not fit for singing though I love music. The reason being that times without number I was always asked to straighten up which I found embarrassing regardless of how much effort I did to improve.
Eventually, I finally quit.
Consequently, I followed the prescription in the book by asking friends to tell me stuffs about me that could help.
Unfortunately, the feedback was so poor.
Thus, this confirms the fact that no one on earth can tell you who you are except you.
However, I embark on a soul search.
Meanwhile, way back growing up in high school I was preoccupied with writing to the national dailies, though I was a science student. Ordinarily as a scientist I shouldn’t be cut out for this but I never quit since I derived joy during so back then.
Besides, I’m an extrovert who loved chatting and holding people held-bound.
How did I finally figure out my passion?
Furthermore, I became member of the Sunday school unit of the same local Church. This is a teaching unit of all Baptist Churches.
Interestingly, I had a brilliant performance there because the feedback was so encouraging.
I remembered one day after taking a class, a young man walked up to me and told me, ‘You were so wonderful while you took your class today, and besides I’m really inspired’
Thus, I knew this was eureka moment for me!
In addition, there was this day I wrote an article and shared with friends. Afterward, people were awed and inspired by the piece.
They showered encomium on me, and also advised that I gave novel writing a shot. I have never back down since then.
Truth is the Gautama Buddha saying that “Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it”
Ever since that time I never look back as I have been a committed teacher and writer.
