A Tale Of ‘Lagos Success Story’

To begin with, Lagos, as it is, was the former capital city of Nigeria situated in the south western part of Nigeria.

Besides, it is reputed to be the industrial hub of the West Africa region. The mere fact that she is bounded by the sea and lagoon on every side proofs this fact that Lagos is first among the rest.

Thus, Lagos has always been an envy of all other states in the country that are landlocked.

Historically, Lagos means lake in Portuguese, the language of first European-settlers known to have visited the settlement, and then already inhabited by the Awori, in 1472.

Currently, four languages’ can be found in the mega-city namely Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and Ijaw. The city boasts of her rich diversity and heritage above other states in Nigeria.

However, in the past, it was the gateway and exit through which the foreign imperialist purchased slaves and traded in other goods all across the nation prior to transporting them to their respective home countries.

In addition, the beautiful scenery in the day equally endears both the urban dwellers and visitors who drive by during the day.

The city’s calm and peace for decades, no doubt, have been reasons for the swelling of influx of would-be dwellers by the day.

Thus, the communal lifestyle has united the families all over because every weekend there is always one function or the other to be celebrated, either wedding ceremonies or house warming or better still naming ceremonies all over the place.

Interestingly, the whole city and her environs rocks at such periods!

There is a notion among settlers that Lagos State is a city of wisdom because of her strives to model her system of government after the developed world which has paid-off in every respect.

Consequently, economically Lagos is a viable and accommodating for businesses.

Little wonder, she prides herself of GDP of $136 Billion. Therefore, ever since the inception of democracy from the military 18years ago, she has been a pace-setter in areas of infrastructural developments, health services, education, transportation networks, road networks, power supply, security, agricultural developments, just to name a few.

Recently, she celebrated her 50th years of her creation as a state which, however, drew attention of the high and might from across the globe.

The mega-city was extravagantly decorated to catch the attention of all, though those who were not bothered about the change in outlook or scenery of things could never stopped wishing it lasted more.

I personally was inspired to pen down this great day, as I would not serve the posterity well if I failed to do so.

Everywhere was decorated with poster-images of our past heroes and the successful men and women who have made a difference in various professions.

Among such of them are: the past governors, the present governor, Akinwumi Ambode, the literary icon, Prof. Wole Soyinka, the famous musical artists such as Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Olamide, King Sunny Adegeye, Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot, PDP opposition party chairman, Chief Bode Judge, the richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, the richest billionaire-woman, Folorunso Alakija, Femi Otedola, Musician maestro, Adewale Ayuba, Fuji Musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, Olamide just to name a few.

Meanwhile, aside the above named successful people put on displayed in the middle of the roads all over the place are teeming unsung moneybags earning their livelihood while doing their businesses in Lagos and her environs.

In conclusion, the golden jubilee euphoria has come and gone but the dusk is yet to settle.

It is amusing for me to discover that some grassroots aspirants are misleading the electorates by misusing the caption to woo voters into casting their lots with them.

I strongly believe that the rationale behind the caption “The Lagos Success Story” was beyond ordinary name but was borne out of the inspiration for everyone to be inspired that truly Lagos State is a land of dream where anyone can achieve all what he/she sets out to achieve once conceived.
